The 100 Best Android Apps of 2012

Android users drooling over iPhone apps? So passé.
Now that the latest Android devices enjoy blazingly fast 4G LTE networks, top-of-the-line chips, gorgeous displays, and superb cameras, Android apps are more than capable of outshining their iPhone counterparts (example: the Android-only Lightbox app beats Instagram in every way, apart from the size of the photo community). Android users also have unique categories iPhone owners will probably never know, like BitTorrent clients, alternative browsers, widgets, and game emulators.

How We Chose This list started back in 2010 and is revised almost quarterly with additions, deletions, and replacements. There are 450,000 apps in Google Play; the 0.02 percent represented in this list have shown outstanding performance and mainstream usability, all without killing your device's CPU. If an app had free and premium versions I generally veered towards the free.
Unfortunately, until every Android user is on the same device and os version, Android apps will forever be dogged by fragmentation issues. I tested most of the apps below on a Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.0.2, although most are compatible with Android 2.2 and above.
Click on the slideshow to check out our favorite 100 Android apps. Or if that sounds daunting, simply click on a category on your right.

enjoy the new apps.....
